The iced tea stays cold: Magnotherm wants to revolutionize cooling technology in the world, but the result should not change for people. The company, based in Darmstadt in Hesse, promises that with its environmentally friendly new technology, more rooms can be cooled as usual, as can food.
The bosses at Magnotherm speak of a vicious circle when it comes to cooling: the warmer the world gets due to climate change, the more cooling is necessary. But because standard gas compression cooling emits a lot of greenhouse gases, the problem of climate change is getting worse. Magnotherm, on the other hand, works with a new type of magnetic cooling technology that does not cause any greenhouse gases. It uses magnets and magnetic metals to cool and then transfers the cold using a water-based fluid. The technology is a world first and is already being used in a supermarket in Darmstadt. There is a drinks refrigerator there that no longer produces any greenhouse gases.
